Advanced Primary Care (APC) holds great promise for employers to improve employee health, health outcomes, and healthcare costs. APC is a population-focused care delivery method that is superior to the traditional fee-for-service model because it provides true care coordination that cannot be achieved in FFS. Here’s why: APC enhances patient access, allows more time with patients, integrates with behavioral health, and provides referrals to specialists based on quality. In this session, three types of APC models will be presented by leaders of healthcare organizations experienced in APC.

Cancer screenings and treatment saw a sharp decline during the COVID pandemic. The delays and disruptions in cancer screenings and care delivery, coupled with fear and avoidance by those at risk for cancer, will likely lead to greater severity, more complications, worse outcomes, and higher healthcare costs. In this session, we will discuss the impact of delayed cancer screenings and treatment during COVID and employer strategies to mitigate the fallout on employees’ health and healthcare costs.

Obesity and related conditions are the fastest growing health issues in the U.S. More than two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, and at higher risk for diabetes, heart disease, musculoskeletal disorders, and mental illness, including depression. The COVID pandemic has exacerbated every one of these conditions, especially obesity, making weight management as both a health and a business imperative for employers. SESSION 4: Value-driven pharmacy benefit strategies to curb costs and improve outcomes
Employers expect their health benefits costs to increase 5.3 percent this year, to an average $15,500 per employee. Costly biologic therapies and wasteful spending due to medication misuse, overuse or underuse are key drivers behind employers’ rising healthcare costs. Fortunately, employers have two relatively new instruments in their drug-management toolkit: Biosimilars and Comprehensive Medication Management.
